Cross-docking

It is a picking reloading, which consists of reloading or repacking the goods and sending them to the recipient directly from the warehouse from the final recipient without additional storage of the goods.

The essence of cross-docking

The emergence of cross-docking is the result of, inter alia, searching for logistic solutions aimed at reducing costs related to the storage of goods, shortening the time of delivery of goods to the contractor and reducing warehouse space, and thus, improving the competitiveness of companies that deliver goods to the market.

  • cross-docking of full pallets, usually used for large-volume products. Full pallets of homogeneous products are directed here directly to the recipient.
  • cross-docking of orders completed by the supplier. This method consists of picking and sending the goods by the producer directly to the recipients (the producer must know the needs of each of them)
  • cross-docking with picking at the loading point. Full pallets of the same product go to the Distribution Center, where the products are picked and completed for specific orders (a certain rotational stock is required, usually used the next day).
